The main focus for Wilson was to be the full elephant hunting experience. We certainly got that and more. Full of the highs and lows of early season ele hunting. Torrential rain the week before Wilson arrived made access around the area hard. It also made the jesse in places impenetrable. Visibility was down to feet in some places. We looked at several bulls and on day 9 we found a big single tusker. We followed him and caught him with some cows and just as Wilson was about to shoot, a cow got in the way. This happened 3 times then they smelt us and ran away. The next day we followed him the whole day and caught him at sun down and on final approach he heard us and ran away. We then followed him for the 3rd day and caught him at lunch time and Wilson gave him a perfect side brain shot and earned a well-deserved elephant bull after tracking him well over 30kms. Wilson also shot a beautiful buffalo bull which was exciting as there were lions chasing them. After the shot the crows appeared and thought of laying claim to our buffalo. Wilson also got an impala and the biggest warthog I’ve ever seen. It has been a true pleasure hunting with Wilson. He never put me under pressure, even when the days were marching on. We had a whole lot of fun and I look forward to hunting with Wilson again one of these days

Elephant hunting in April in the Zambezi Valley is not for the feint hearted. The bull are with the cows, and the cows just don’t like hunters. We had some exciting times trying to sort through the cows, but after 12 hard days in the jesse we had an incredibly rewarding finish. I killed a great old buffalo, a great old elephant bull, an impala and was conned into shooting the “biggest warthog Buzz had ever seen”. Buzz and an incredible team, from the driver to the trackers and an outstanding cameraman. The tracking was literally unbelievable. Thanks to Buzz, the team and CMS for letting me cross off the top of my bucket list. One great hunt!
